I love hip hop, but hip hop and theology discussions rarely work out well for some reason.
There are so many tremendous sites on the internet for Christian debate and conversation that thrive without the level of personal attack that we find in hip hop theology boards. Why is that?
Is it because of our youthfulness? Our bragadacio and code of honor that is so thick within our culture? Do we wear it so strongly that we refuse to acknowledge our weaknesses for fear that we will no longer be respected?
I feel like it is great to disagree, and point out exactly why we disagree. But it is of no benefiet to tell one another repeatedly that "you are not a Christian, you are a heretic, you are ruining the church." Even if its true, that is not the best way to communicate this message, over the internet. Instead it is more suitable for a transfer of ideas, a sharing of opinion sharpening each others minds. Debates are great if we keep it on that level, academic. In hip hop theology boards this rarely happens. It routinely ultimately becomes a bash fest, one upping one another...saving face, refusing to admit fault, trying to get the other to admit fault...and of course telling everyone how bad or fake of a Christian they are.
In my estimation, what is the point of all that? I just wish we could just talk theology. Disagree. Show why we disagree. And force ourselves to deal with each others critiques, to sharpen ourselves.
Instead we are trying to convert each other, or trying to protect the flock from some big bad internet personality. That is all stupid, and I rarely see it in non hip hop theology forums.
So why us?

I dunno why either! But I have seen this on many non hip hop boards, it depends where u go. But very interesting observation yeah, its like we battlin' but through theology instead of rhymes. Cats trying to show how dope they are and how foolish others are, as though that was the point. We got a lot of pride, which stems a lot from our up bringing I suppose. Often we see on hip hop theology boards the same pride that is prevelant in the streets...where it is "necessary" to protect my rep and neighborhood, but now that I am a Christian that same pridefulness is "necessary" to "protect" the church. The irony of course is that by sacrificing humility and peacefulness we are the ones destroying the church in our efforts to destroy it. fareal, we would all be best served if we just were able to have a judgmental free, free exchange and critique of ideas. Expect each other to disagree, and that way we will not be shocked when we find out that we do. Recognize we all come from a different place and my agenda is not to expose your heresy to all or even to you, but to interact with each others minds and better each other through that process. Just debate the issues. Ahhhh...I miss my old debates with Shai Linne.

amen to it all eternal.... i was REALLY grieved by the convo in the thread welcoming me and in Roldans goodbye, but didnt feel that anything i would say would've helped, and i probably woulda got verbally eaten alive jumping in the middle of that trying to help. :-(
Answer, i must say Brotha, you musta been growin in the Lord, because i remember your HHZ days, IMHO, you used to be one of the people eternal is talking about now. (and i was of course many times too, usually in retaliation)
and you've even sharply disagreed with me about some stuff lately, and i even expected you to be much "worse", but you kept it respectful and you've proven yourself to be better than all that mess now. :-) so, congratulations, lol, keep up the good work. :-)
also eternal, if u read my other response, you know that i'm in a religion class at school now (and have taken like 2 others before this one), so i've been opened up to the "academic" study of the Bible now too, and as i said in the other thread, i think that type of critical/academic study of Gods Word is what will lead people down a bad road, because that type of study is based on mans wisdom and human logic, and not the Spirit of God. i don't expect many people here to agree with me on that, but that is specifically what God has told me.... and, the fruit speaks for itself, of what i've seen religion classes or seminaries do to people.
(ooh, i hear Joyce Meyer in the background on TV speaking a GOOOD Word!! she always talk plainly about alotta stuff Christians be going through or wondering, that no other preachers bring up. :-) to me anyway, for the stuff that i be thinking about. maybe we just similar personalities.)

here's what i wrote yesterday on HHFTS when someone asked why we bash each other:
i used to be that way with others who were that way with me, but as the Biblical principle goes, "2 wrongs dont make a right". many Christians are that way because of pride, they want to appear smart, deep or spiritual, or just put others down to make themselves feel better. many of them have approval addiction, and do it to win other's approval. :-( the main ones i've known online to be this way, are still this way to this day, after years of living in this sinful habit. :-( personally, i grew out of it as i grew in the Lord. God bless

Hey kobe thanks for that, I needed to hear it. God has been working on me in how I deal with people over the internet. At times the flesh wants to say nasty things, but thats when I have to really relax and let God speak thru me. There is something about being over the net that makes u want to say things u normally wouldn't say if the person was in front of u. i think its cuz of less accountability. Now u know I got some beef with some of the things u said about seminary and learning. But we will save that for another thread
