This derived from the Christian Pork thread...
When you read the conscious passages (1 Cor. 8-9, Rom. 14, etc) do you see this argument being applied to many other issues? I think in Corinthians especially this is evident as those chapters are a culmination of the approach to the marriage issue, lawsuits, and even on past 8/9 and into how liberty was abused in Israel's history and how it was to be expressed in the churches with the gifts. Even the insight of the Lord's supper in ch. 11 shows how Christ used His liberty...
So especially in that book I see a broad discussion on liberty and how to handle it with maturity as a Christian. I have likewise tried to understand that principle and see how it might relate in today's world. I have applied it to issues such as secular books, television, music, gambling, smoking, alchohol, etc. All of these can be considered religious issues, just as circumcission, high days/festivals, dietary laws, etc. once were to 1st century Christians.
So what exactly is "liberty" trying to express, and how should it be applied in our world today? Are the issues I highlighted above comparable to the debates of the 1st century? Why or why not? How are we to mature in liberty?

Well, If I can be direct with your subtlety
The expression of liberty?
Psa 119:45 And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.
Jam 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth [therein], he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
and a warning with liberty ...
Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh,
1Pe 2:16 As free, and not using [your] liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
2Pe 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
There is a lot to say on Liberty, but I will let the Scriptures speak for themselves.
